Psychological safety can reverse turnover
Employee turnover in Brazilian companies reaches 56%, the highest in the world
Brazil has registered the highest turnover rate in the world. The rotation of professionals in Brazilian companies reaches 56%, according to industry research. The index is higher than in countries like France (51%), Belgium (45%), and the United Kingdom (43%). Among the various factors contributing to this is the organizational environment. Improving workplace conditions is one of the main tips from specialists to reverse the situation. However, more than advice, the control of psychosocial risks in companies is now required by law.
The fact is that this year the update to NR-1 came into effect — a set of guidelines created by the Ministry of Labor and Employment to ensure adequate health and safety conditions for employees. Now, Brazilian companies are responsible for ensuring that the corporate environment is not a source of mental illness, in addition to being free from physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic risks. Companies have until May 2026 to comply.
Taking advantage of this new development, Revista Estratégias e Soluções (E&S) spoke with Celysa Hirt, a specialist in organizational culture, internal marketing, and leadership development, and Tassia Urbano, a work psychologist, to discuss psychological safety in companies.
Where to start? “Everything starts with a photograph of how the company is at that moment,” stated Celysa. “It can mean many actions or the strengthening of some projects, actions, or programs that already existed within organizations.” Click below to watch the debate between them on this subject, presented by Soraia Fessel.
