Brazilian technology parks: next steps
Country already has more than 100 hubs and needs to modernize governance to foster competitiveness and development
Innovation is one of the most important words today. It is through it that companies can improve their competitive positioning, generate new jobs and, with that, contribute to the generation of business value and to the economic and social development of countries.
Increasingly, more technology parks have emerged worldwide—uniting companies, universities, incubators, and other elements of the technological ecosystem to foster innovation. Brazil currently has over 100 of these hubs, 64 of which are operational, according to data from the InovaData platform of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation. Another 42 are being implemented, and 7 are still in the planning phase.
According to Anprotec (National Association of Entities Promoting Innovative Enterprises), the approximately 3,000 companies sheltered by Brazilian technology parks closed 2023 with a revenue of R$ 15 billion and generated over 75,000 jobs.
Despite the impressive numbers, Brazil still has a long way to go, and the next step is to modernize the governance of these ecosystems, to foster the competitiveness of the participating companies and the economic development of the territory where they are located.
This is what today’s interviewees tell us, Dirceu Giglio, a USP prosecutor and legal consultant specializing in innovation ecosystems, and Pedro Chamochumbi, innovation consultant and manager, both founders of the innovation agency AiX — a consultancy associated with Pecege, in Piracicaba, which is dedicated to accelerating the development of innovative municipalities, territories, environments, organizations, and projects throughout the country. Watch the interview they gave below to Revista Estratégias e Soluções (E&S), from Editora Pecege, with the participation of presenter Soraia Fessel.
